What are the chances that Life may have developed on exoplanets and may persist over a significant period of time?
At this moment, it is considered most probable that Life, if indeed present in other planetary systems, will be located on Earth-like planets. However, it is, at least in theory, also possible that it will be found on some of the moons in orbit around exoplanets.
A first possibility is to look for planets in the "habitable" zone" that is, at a distance from the central star where water may exist in its liquid form.
