In the not-so-far distant future, humans will learn to use the resources and
the real estate that are offered by other worlds in space. Examples that have
been considered in depth are the use of space stations to provide solar power
in amounts sufficient to solve the energy crisis on Earth, and mining the
Moon, asteroids and even Jupiter to extract valuable minerals and materials
that are in scarce supply on Earth. Terraforming Mars, Titan or other objects
in our Solar system will provide temporary homes for humanity before taking
the big leap.
In the century now beginning, space cities will cease to be science fiction.
These colonies will provide a home for many human generations, providing an
opportunity to live on cheap energy without waste or energy or wars. Beyond
that, we have to use our imagination.
